I've cross trained and certified through multiple organizations including Cornerstone, DONA, Birth Arts International, IPPA, and more. You can see a full list of my training on my about me page.
I am a fully certified birth and postpartum doula.
I have been professionally trained and certified in multiple aspects of reproductive care (abortion, adoption, birth, postpartum, death, miscarriage) and I consider myself a "full spectrum doula"
While I value education and I do believe all care providers should seek training in the modalities they'd like to offer their community, I don't value certification and I don't think that it should be a requirement for doulas to support families. Doulas are not required to achieve certification in any state but I personally decided to pursue certification so that I could become an approved provider for insurances like Medicaid and Carrot.
I bring a chill bestie vibe to the birth space. I naturally have a very grounding, calming presence but I also know how to make light of a situation when needed. I enjoy getting to know each family's sense of humor and use it to break any tension if necessary. I usually end up feeling really close to my clients and we end up texting each other life updates and pictures after our contract is over.
Everybody's needs are different and I adapt my support to meet those needs.
Typically, partners need the most support when it comes to feeling confident in the birth space. It's hard to see someone you love endure such a challenge, especially if they're in pain. Prenatally, I empower partners with the knowledge and communication skills they'll need to navigate your chosen birth space and follow your birth plan. In the birth room, I offer gentle nudges of encouragement and quiet guidance on what might feel best for you support wise. Postnatally, I lend a listening ear and allow them space to process the birth from their perspective and offer practical assistance with tasks like newborn care and connection to external support groups or counseling when needed.
I LOVE your medical team. At the end of the day, we ALL want what is best for you and your baby and it's a privilege to be able to work alongside your midwives, nurses, and doctors to provide you with the best experience possible. Every birth offers something new to learn and I feel so grateful to be able to lean on their guidance when it comes to learning something new.
It depends who is feeling the tension.
If YOU are feeling tense and would rather that person not be at your birth, I will kindly escort them out.
If a family member's tension is directed at ME, then I will do my absolute best to make them feel as comfortable as possible. It helps if we're able to address any of their apprehensions prenatally so we can avoid tension in the birth space but I have learned to deal with this situation gracefully and with care. Usually, the tension comes from them not understanding my role, thinking that I don't know what's happening because I'm not a medical provider, or thinking that I'm trying to replace your partner. I'm happy to clarify for them outside of the birth space if they need it.
I love ALL births. Home births, birth center births, hospital births, car births, forest births. I am just happy and grateful to be able to do this work which feels so in purpose for me.
Yes, yes, and yes! If you would like copies of any of these please reach out.
